Workshop to present the Review Conference of the Rome Statute of Kampala
23 July 2010

From 31 May to 11 June 2010, there has been held in Kampala, Uganda, the Review Conference of the Statute of the International Criminal Court. It gathered together over 5,000 representatives of States Parties to the Rome Statute, States not parties, governmental and nongovernmental organizations.

On completion of this work, the conference adopted resolutions including the amendment of Articles 8 and 124 of the Rome Statute on cooperation and complementarity and the definition and methods of initiating prosecution for the crime of aggression (so-called internal filter and external).

The Congolese Coalition for the International Criminal Court in the DRC (NC-ICC/DRC), in collaboration with the Bar of Lubumbashi, is organizing this Friday, July 23, 2010, at the House of the Bar, a dissemination workshop which will help to reflect on the impact of the resolutions of Kampala.

It will, therefore, be about giving voice to Lubumbashi Lawyers (Lawyers, Judges, Journalists, Researchers and Lawyers operating in NGOs working for the fight against impunity for serious crimes) to analyze the resolutions adopted by the Kampala conference, giving their legal submissions and identify the measures that the DRC must take to give effect and the role that all actors of civil society should play.

A panel of four speakers will be established so that each of them presents, for fifteen minutes, the quintessence of the resolution entrusted him and its comments. To allow guests to participate in the debates actively, they will be distributed a few copies of resolutions.
At the same time, it will launch a plea for the support of an amendment to the reorganization of the civil defense before the ICC.
