Malaysia: Show global leadership by joining ICC

Malaysia is currently a member of the UN Security Council and the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). There’s no better time to join the ICC.

TELL MALAYSIA TO JOIN THE ICC NOW!

In 2011, Malaysia’s cabinet decided in favor of accession to the Rome Statute—the ICC’s founding treaty—but it has taken no steps to do so since then. Its government says the Statute’s incompatibility with Malaysia’s domestic legislation, as well as threats it would pose to state sovereignty, have held up the process.

What are we doing?
  • We issued press releases and sent letters urging the prime minister of Malaysia to accede to the ICC Rome Statute. See documents below.
  • • Our regional coordinator for Asia-Pacific, Amielle Del Rosario—along with local civil society groups—is following up with national authorities to ensure that the Rome Statute accession process moves forward. See documents below.
What is the Campaign for Global Justice?

This is our monthly global effort urging governments around the world to:
  • Join the ICC by ratifying or acceding to the Rome Statute
  • Ensure they have national laws to prosecute grave crimes and assist the ICC in its work.
